A message from our founder

"My grandmother had an incredibly giving heart. I once met a pastor who said, "I believe there is Jesus, and then your grandmother." My brother and I chuckled at the time, but deep down, we both understood the truth in that statement. She was not only God-fearing and God-loving, but she also embodied what it meant to be a faithful servant in everything she did.

Her love was full and passionate, always extended to others without ever expecting anything in return.

When my father passed away, I received a copy of her trust. The opening paragraph touched me deeply, stating that while she hoped her trust would provide for us after her passing, her greatest desire was for her son, my father Lane, and her grandchildren to walk closely with the Lord. I realize now more than ever that her actions and example are the most cherished gifts she left behind.

She wanted my brother and me to truly understand the importance of loving others, showing kindness, and serving God in all aspects of our lives.

I remember vividly how she took us along to volunteer at the church. We stood outside in the freezing weather, helping to hand out food to the homeless. Each holiday season, we would go shopping for children on the Angel Tree at the local mall, and she often brought us to visit the elderly and sick in nursing homes. As children, we didn’t fully grasp the significance of these activities. Now, as an adult, I see that she was working to instill in us the values of compassion, love, and a generous heart.

Two quotes she cherished resonate with me even more now:

1. "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." — Winston Churchill

2. "If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one." — Mother Teresa

I am profoundly grateful for the lessons my grandmother, Elizabeth, imparted to me. I aspire to lead a life that reflects her example, hoping to pass on her wisdom to my own children, Hayden, Harper, and Brooks. It would mean the world to me to know that her legacy of love and kindness continues through them."

Signed with a Grateful Heart,

Whitney

At a very early age, Whitney’s grandmother, Elizabeth Bodie Green, began exposing Whitney and her younger brother John to the transformative power of the arts. Countless hours were spent at Chrysler Hall, where they immersed themselves in the beauty of the famous artworks that adorned its walls.

At the age of seven, Whitney attended her first Broadway show, Cats, and instantly fell in love with the magic of music and theater. The bond between Elizabeth and Whitney grew as they traveled to Broadway productions and the ballet over the following twenty-seven years, until age and health prevented Elizabeth from continuing their cherished adventures.

After retiring from the Hampton School System, Elizabeth traveled the world and spoke passionately of the stunning art she had experienced. Her ability to find beauty in nearly everything was a gift that inspired those around her.

A graduate of Lander University and William & Mary, Elizabeth served as a former Hampton City Schools Librarian. She went on to become the Head of Media Science for the school system, championing the importance of education.

To preserve their shared love for the arts and uplift the community, a portion of the proceeds from the Elizabeth Lane Company will be dedicated to supporting the local arts in Hampton Roads.

While Elizabeth nurtured a deep appreciation for the arts, Whitney’s father, Preston Lane Green, had a passion for sports—an enthusiasm he shared with his children. As a talented multi-sport athlete, he found inspiration in the legends of his time.

During Whitney's elementary years, Lane purchased season tickets to the Baltimore Orioles, creating unforgettable memories for his family. They spent weekends at Camden Yards, captivated by the greatness of players like Cal Ripken Jr.

The nostalgia of that iconic park brings to life the wonder of childhood, where the thrill of the game, a soda, and a hot dog create lasting joy. To this day, Whitney can close her eyes and vividly recall her dad by her side along the third base line. His smile and child-like enthusiasm, combined with the smells and bright lights, remain forever etched in her heart and mind.

In a heartfelt commitment to preserving their love for sports, especially baseball, the Elizabeth Lane Company will dedicate a portion of their annual proceeds to support the War Memorial Baseball Stadium. This historic stadium is not just a building; it embodies cherished summer memories and a sense of community for many locals who have enjoyed countless baseball games through the years.
